I just came across an article that was highlighting the construction of various highways in a country called Kenya that is found in Africa. After reading the article, i started thinking to myself about the Internet and how it is regarded as an information Superhighway and has further developed as a financial Superhighway.

Why do i say this? I say this because the Internet has witnessed the emergence of many millionaires and billionaires than any other industry has generated. This has been because it was centered on the fact that everybody needs some kind of information. If this information is placed in a central location where anybody in the world that has connection to it can access it, then voila, you can make money just like that at the comfort of your own home!!

Think about it, Bill Gates,Larry and Serge are just a few examples of the billionaires made from the Internet or Financial Superhighway. The millionaires are many more and most of them are unknown due to the vast dynamics of the infrastructure found on the Internet. Therefore just as a physical road can give rise to various investments such as shops, malls and other real estate related products, the Internet is an information Superhighway that has given rise to various cash generating activities!

Whether it is the sale of goods and products for delivery to the people who order for them via your website worldwide or just generating traffic from the valuable information you provide for reference to anybody who may need it, right down to just gossip about our various celebrities down at Hollywood and other Movie Industries. The opportunities are endless and are as vast as the ocean!!

The World Wide Web has always been considered as vast, unfathomable, and even an ultimately diverse virtual arena where people from all over the world are able share all kinds of information with one another despite the distance, the difference in culture, language, and even age and gender.  But this power has its disadvantages and we see that in the copyright violations that plague the academic community.  Because of the easy access to shared information, many internet users think that these works are free for the public domain and can be taken, copied, and distributed for others without prior notice to the owners of such works.  This is a violation not only of the person’s rights to copyright his or her works but also his respect as the creator or owner of such work.

What most do not know is that anything posted online on the Internet is still considered “published” work and are therefore still qualified for copyright protection.  So if you think that your works can be made public to the online community, it is important that you know copy laws internet before considering putting up your works online. There are thousands of internet users who want anything that is free and downloadable for their own personal agenda, so it’s best that you know what to do to be able to exercise your rights with regards to copyrighting on the internet.  Remember that no matter what, a site owner, author, director, or even an artist deserves to give permission to people who wish to use their works for other reasons such as redistribution or personal use for school or work.Â

So exactly does one enforce their authority over their ownership on the internet?  An actual copyright law that enforces copyright laws internet is known as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.  This act is designed to primarily limit the liability of ISPs or Internet Service Providers due to copyright infringements that their subscribers experience while using the company’s systems and networks.  It was also enacted in order to both preserve the rights of those who rightfully have ownership of works posted on the internet and to immune ISPs from possible accusations and liabilities on their part for such violations.  So if ever you encounter an instance or situation where any of your works were taken, reposted, or redistributed without your sole permission, you can write a DMCA letter to the internet user’s ISP server who made the offense as well as to search engines like Google or Yahoo.

There are websites all over the World Wide Web that provide good advice as well for people who need to know about copyright laws and the internet, so if you think you need more information about this all you have to do is search through Google and Yahoo.  You’ll stumble upon thousands of websites such as this one that will provide you with tips and step-by-step instructions on what to do when faced with a situation involving copyright infringement.Â

Designers are always trying to do something new with screensavers. As Internet usage increase, the screensavers are becoming more popular. The latest innovation in screensaver designs is calendar screensavers.

It is not difficult to understand why screensavers are becoming so popular. Most of them are free. They give enjoyment. Most of them come with lovely music. They are fun to watch and share. To sit on a computer for hours can become tiring. Screensavers give the much-needed break.

These screensavers are animated video shots. The animated image has a beautiful calendar. It looks lovely to look at and some of these are fabulous and totally free. Agreed that many users will not use the calendars on the screensavers to know about date, but is usage the only reason for getting something? Then luxury cars would never sell.

You can download free Calendar screensavers with the following main topics and more – 4th July, Birds, Butterflies, Christmas, Flowers, Halloween, Love & Romance, Ocean Life, Natural World, Happy New Year, Miscellaneous, Seasons, Sports, Saint Patrick’s Day, Thanksgiving, Transport, Valentines Day and Waterfalls.

In this article I want to talk to you about music distribution online and answer a few of the questions that come up when a band or musician is first thinking about getting their tracks out to the world.

First of all well done!

You are being very clever going digital because real CDs are dead for smart musicians who know that the money is better spent of advertising and marketing.

Now onto those common questions…

1. How much does music distribution online cost?

The best distribution companies will offer to do your release on a per track basis and should only charge you 50c a track maximum. This should include your ISRC codes.

2. What percentage of future royalties should I give to the distributors?

NOTHING! You should run a mile if anyone ever tries to get there hands on your songwriting royalty. They did not write the song so only ever pay a one time fee.

3. When will I see my music show up on iTunes?

This is so much faster than it used to be, you should see your music on iTunes in a matter of a few hours after payment.

4. When will my music be on spotify?

Because they get so much content a site like spotify will take up to four weeks to show your track. But the music distribution company should deliver it right away.

5. How do the music distributor pay me?

You can have the money deposited directly in your bank account.

6. What if my band break up and I want to take a track down?

Your music distribution company should do this free of charge. Just let them know.

Final thoughts.

If your are thinking of putting out a first release I would suggest that you get your stuff out there as quickly as possible. The best thing you can do is start to get some feedback from the music fans right away.

Just do a single track for a small cost and go from there.

Good luck.

Musical Starstreams, the internationally-syndicated radio program and full-time format of ethereal, spacey, futuristic, progressive, ambient, worldly, dubby, trip hop, acid jazz, downtempo, chill music (simply called “exotic electronica”) begins a seven day per week, nightly schedule tonight on WNUA, Chicago, the USA’s third largest national media market and streaming on WNUA.com.

Longtime WNUA MD and programmer, Rick O’Dell, said, “Starstreams has been ‘can’t miss listening’ for its legions of Chicagoland fans for 21 years on WNUA. And, for every listener who’s asked us over the years to ‘give us more,’ we finally have some good news with the new nightly broadcast of the show.”

Musical Starstreams originated and first aired in San Francisco on December 20th of 1981. Ronald Reagan had been our president for just eleven months, interest rates were in the double digits and recordings were sourced from vinyl and cassettes – there were no compact discs or digital music files.

After a brief stint in the Chicago market on WCKG, Starstreams first aired on a weekly basis on WNUA in November of 1987. In 1991, the program was nominated for a prestigious Billboard magazine award for Network/Syndicator Adult Program of the Year. Over the years Starstreams has aired on over 200 radio stations – including WNUA, KKSF San Francisco, KNTU Dallas, XM CHILL Channel 84, DirecTV and numerous satellite channels and the Internet at Starstreams.com, Live365.com and the top rated, full-time AMBIENT channel at radioIO.com.

Thousands of programs later, producer and host Forest has perfected and evolved a proven, unique mix of mid- to down-tempo “exotic electronica” — neither head banging techno, nor syrupy new age — and in the process Starstreams has consistently garnered top ratings and loyal listeners worldwide.

Musical Starstreams, the exotic side of radio, is offered without charge weekly, nightly or full time, on a barter basis, to radio stations worldwide.

Marketing music on the Internet comes down to one thing that you should always keep at the front of your mind when you’re trying to get new fans.

The big secret is that you need to build your mailing list with even single piece of marketing you do. If you can get 1000 true fans on your list they will buy everything you ever do, come to all your shows and tell all their friends how good you are.

You really can’t put a price on that kind of following!

So know we know what our goals is we need to take some steps to get there.

PHASE 1 – This is where you set up your website with a pop up that collects email addresses

PHASE 2 – Now you need to get traffic to your website:

1. Write a blog post every day talking about news in your music niche.
2. Get a ping fm account and set it up so that all your blog posts auto update your social media accounts.
3. Use Facebook ads to target music fans who like the same kind of music you do. If you use “pay per thousand views” and target your market really well you should be able to get your cost per click down to around 2 cent.
4. Post a video on YouTube everyday with your own songs and covers.

PHASE 3 – Now that you have traffic and people joining your mailing list you should be able to send your new fans messages every day that make them love you.

You want to keep in mind that you should be like Santa Clause. Every time you contact your fans you bring them a great gift!

Everyone loves Santa;-)

This is a silly example but it illustrates the kind of relationship you want to create with your fans.

A snare drum beat, a pounding bass, a graceful melody that’s cuts through your ear and touches your soul. We’ve all uttered the next few words. “Who is can that be?” These are a few artists that are extremely talented, but have not gained notoriety. You may be familiar with some of these, other, you may have not heard of. But you would be well served to better acquaint yourself with these bands. Take note, the music of all of these bands can be located on internet radio.

Nico: Best known for being a drug addled chanteuse, that should not repel anybody from the fact that she sang (a term I use loosely) some really beautiful songs. Listen to “These Days” from the 1960′s album “Chelsea Girls.” With contributions from Jackson Browne and Bob Dylan, the album exudes a warm and elegant tone that is unrivaled by any the came thereafter.
Syd Barrett: Just about every music fan is familiar with Pink Floyd. And some of you may even know the leader of the groups early years. But Syd Barrett is most remarkable to me as a damaged but brilliant (and brief) solo artist. He created two albums in 1970, “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barrett.” They were not very robust in content, some say far from complete, but listen to “Terrapin” (off of the more superior “Madcap” album) and no musical creation has a more psychedelic tone. Every one from Bowie to Ray Davies cites Syd as essential, and for good reason.
The Velvet Underground: Words cannot describe the first time I heard “Pale Blue Eyes,” or “Sweet Jane.” These songs and this group are classic. From their pop minimalist origins, they do not disappoint the most discerning of listeners. Although I would stay clear from anything released during the 1990′s reunion. The Velvet Underground is a fantastic rock and roll band that Americans never fully understood or appreciated.

The Meters: Ultra funky group led by Art Nellville of The Nellville Brothers. Since they’re inception in the 60′s The Meters have laid down the funk like no other. Listen to “Cissy Strut” and you will understand. Although largely instrumental, that should not stop anybody from checking them out.
The Dictators: Having released arguably the First “New York Punk Album” (1974′s Go Girl Crazy) The Dictators exude a more lucid Twisted Sister and Quite Riot than an artsy Television. True they were abnormal in they’re time, now we can look back and cherish how truly honest they were. They sometimes considered childish or evocative, but is was all in good humor. And you can’t deny their biting songs! You can find ‘The Dictators” on free online music.
The Cramps: Formed by Lux Interior (obvious stage name) in the late 70′s, The Cramps recorded some of the most vibrant rock and roll of the century. Think boogie, punk, and swamp. If it wasn’t for front man Lux’s tragic death in February of 2009, they would still be playing somewhere in the country pleasing all fans, from punk to rockabilly.

The best way to go about marketing your music online is to work out a simple plan and then stick with it every day. This will build momentum and overtime you will have more fans than you ever thought possible.

Most musicians try loads of different music branding tactics when they first start out. From ads on google to spamming people on myspace, but because they don’t get overnight success (or even success in a few weeks) they think it’s all broken and move onto something else.

This is were you need to be clever and think like Jedi because there is a secret that EVERYONE is missing…

The big secret that successful music marketers know is that creating momentum is all about consistent daily effort and with that Jedi mindset you can make absolutely any promotional method work.

With that in mind I want to give you a check list for your new marketing your music online mindset:

1. The music is most important – spend 80% of your time making the best music you can and then add a little marketing. This will be the secret sauce for your music branding efforts because suddenly you will have music people want to listen to.

2. Choose one weapon and stick to it – this is how you will get fans to your website and you want to only focus very tightly on one area where you know your fans hand out. Your options are:

- Itunes podcasts
- YouTube videos
- Twitter
- Blogging
- Ezine articles
- Google ads
- Facebook pages
- Myspace
- Reverb nation
- Live gigs

3. Master you weapon – we have chosen our traffic source, now you want to sign up for a google alerts account and then track you traffic platform plus the word “marketing”. So for instance if you were doing Twitter you would track “Twitter marketing”.

You will now get daily emails about all the twitter marketing content on the Internet and you can become the undisputed Jedi Master of your niche

4. Collect fans – now that you have fans coming to your site you want to capture the email addresses of as many as you can. This is ESSENTIAL if you want to build a proper fan base.

5. Be Santa – everyone is always happy when Santa shows up because he brings us great gifts for nothing. You want your fans to feel the same way about you. Provide them with great free stuff and they will love you forever.

Once you have 1000 loyal fans, income generation will be a piece of cake.

Final thoughts.

That’s it guys, 5 step to give you the kind of success that you see all these other famous musicians getting. Now it’s up to you to be consistent and put the plan into action.

Good luck.

At the first hint of snow, everyone realizes that the Christmas season is upon us. Christmas would never be the same without our loved ones and, of course, our favorite holiday music. Almost everyone has their favorite Christmas carols that trigger memories of bygone holidays. Following, are the most popular hits of this Christmas season. Did any of your favorites make the list? By the way, all of these great tunes can be easily obtained on internet radio.

performed and written by Mariah Carey, this recording has been a perennial holiday favorite. It’s an up beat love song that has a combination of traditional musical beats with pop music, it depicts a woman that is missing her beloved companion during the Christmas season. It was recreated by Mariah this year on her album “Merry Christmas II You” and has been considered a holiday classic that continues to set records annually. It has been recorded by numerous artists and has enjoyed popularity in many nations. As opposed to many other holiday recordings, it has sold a multitude of copies with over a million electronic downloads. Since its release, it has topped the charts within the holiday season.

This song became controversial when it was released in the nineteen fifties when the Catholic church in Boston questioned its implications and irreverence for the holiday season. Notwithstanding, the Catholic church acquiesced after its singer, Jimmy Body, offered an explanation to church officials regarding the real meaning of the composition. It was later on popularized by the young Michael Jackson who recorded a great rendition of the song when he was a teen.

We first heard this from Judy Garland back in the nineteen forties when it was played in the movie musical “Meet Me in St. Louis”. During the movie, it was performed by Esther, played by Judy Garland, for Tootsie, played by Margaret O’Brien, on Christmas Eve prior to her family’s departure to New York. Subsequent to that time, it has been a song of encouragement to offer Christmas cheer. This holiday favorite can be easily accessed on your favorite internet radio station.

This song has been considered as one of America’s best known Christmas carols. It was originally recorded by Bing Crosby, and was a top ten hit. Since then, it has become part of the music tradition on the holidays. The song was dedicated to the soldiers of the World War who didn’t make it home for Christmas.

The original intention of this song was not for Christmas. Actually, it was written in the middle of summer. It was written during a hot humid Summer as an mental aid to make people forget the heat. Nat King Cole was the first to record the song. Since then, various versions have been recorded from all around the globe, and it has become a Christmas favorite.

These Christmas songs continue to be holiday favorites, and will most likely make it to the top of the holiday list this year.
